March 31 Mac is Wack Experiment Part Deux Just 14 more days. Thats all I can think about as i booted up this pretty G5. A week or two back i was on the hunt for a decent web cam that didn't cost more then a down payment on a used 1994 honda civic. So as a normal lower middle class citizen i wanted to treat myself. I knew not to go to best buy cause there pricing would be a couple dollars over my budget, and i don't have to tell you that every penny counts during these troubled times (Drink!). So I walk into a Target thinking i could get a good deal (trying to keep a positive vibe). So there i am face to face with the following web cams; the Logitech Quick Cam e3560, Express, Communicate MP or the Microsoft Lifecam VX3000. At this point im freaking out. i text my mac friend Allen and he races home from his non important duty (not really but in my head thats what all my friends would do. drop what they are doing to help me) to look up the web cam models and call me back. A few minutes later he called me back and we almost agreed on a cam but then he asked "are any of them mac compatible"? i looked at all sides of the boxes displayed on the shelves and all that of them were NOT. Now enter frustrated red faced aric, dont get me wrong its never going to be a smooth transition to a new computer, i understand that. Allen insisted that i would be able to download 3rd party drivers so that i can use one of the web cams. this is when i was like oh hell no! Now one of the main statements mac users have expressed over and over again is that it is Easy to use a mac. If it is easy to use a mac then i should be able to walk into a Target, WalMart, K-Mart (haha oh man who am i kidding with that one) pick up a decent web cam for a decent price, Pay at the register, come home and plug it in and have it work. Now i also know that i can look up cheap deals on the interwebs have something shipped to me within the two weeks of purchase (hopefully its not on back order) and pay the excessive amount for shipping (cause we all know the cost of shipping has risen 2-3 greenbacks in the last year). Anyways back to my point, I shouldn't have to download a 3rd party driver to use a cam, i shouldn't have to pay for application that i am able to use for free on a pc(windows live writer). Yes it may sound like i am nit picking but you have to understand my frustration. Now please do me a favor go out to one of the stores i have mentioned and demand mac compatible web cams! Peace out Aric  March 17 Mac Is Wack Experiment Im keeping an open mind is what i keep telling myself. Its funny now when i look back and remember how this little idea snowballed into the experiment of the year. Tonight is my first night on the G5 mac computer. Which was generously supplied by my good friend Stephen. I hope to gain something out of this other than hatred toward the apple community. For the next 30 days I will still be able to use my Zune and Xbox 360, But the following 2 items are to be applied when computing on a daily basis ; 1. No PC use will be permitted except for work purposes 2.Windows applications will be accepted to use if available I do have to say that before writing this blog entry, i would normally fire up my Windows Live Writer and publish my entry with the utmost ease. However i am unable to download a version for the mac and have been unsuccessful in finding a suitable replacement. Also i found out that there is no version of Windows Live Mail a free alternative to Microsoft Outlook. So my last option is to use Microsoft Exchange.17 minutes into it (keep an open mind aric) its not bad but its not good. So raise your beer/glass of wine/shot of tequila/soda/water or whatever and toast to me and my 30 days of mac. Im going to need it. peace out aric  March 10 this is turning into a music blog ...oiThe Early November was a band that for me, defined my late teens. Their indie rock/emo sound was magnetic, So in March 2007 i was shocked to hear that the band was to go on hiatus. I found out through a friend that Arthur "Ace" Enders had been working on solo projects. When I first listened to "Ace Enders and A Million Different People" I instantly fell in love with the project. I could tell that Ace has grown not only as a person but as musician. This past weekend I found out that Ace's new album "When I Hit The Ground" will be available to purchase March 17, I immediately went online to see if i was able to sample some of the tracks. To my surprise i was able to sample the entire album on his Myspcae page. I was very impressed and was drawn to a particular song of his called “Over This”. Ace was stated that the song was about “living in a van for the past seven years”. I automatically thought of his involvement with the early november and the constant touring they had to endure. I believe the song is about the end of a relationship but not wanting to end it. Out of the sadness, frustration and anger of the song, There is an understanding of his need to move on, but still wanted to experience the good times that he has had. I think we can all relate to the lyrics: “We need some saving To help prevent our hearts from breaking So we can say that all of this was worth it”, or “so don't give up cause were not done” and “our hearts speak louder than shotguns sing”.

December 08 another music monday post on my walk to work today i turned up my zune to listen to Degausser by Brand New. As most of you who know me brand new is my all time favorite band in the entire world. I have come to a conclusion that i need to get away for a while. Hence the reason for the song. I picked Bird and the Worm by The Used. I am not positive but i believe the meaning of the song is about a boy/loner who is afraid of a certain problem and is running away from it "Crawls
like a worm from a bird" but the problem might just be in his mind "Terrified of what's inside. So i leave you with the video. enjoy |
